Together with our DACH team, we have put together another brand new version of the 2025 marketing calendar, specifically tailored to the German market.
As a Dutch entrepreneur, you can't just use the Dutch marketing calendar for your activities in Germany. After all, there are essential differences that you should take into account.
Holidays, campaign moments and, for example, school holidays can sometimes differ significantly compared to the Netherlands. It is therefore wise to set up a separate marketing calendar for this to plan your marketing & content.
For example, in addition to global and European marketing intruders, Germany also has many of its own holidays and special occasions. These offer unique opportunities to address your target group. This way, you are even more relevant!
In addition to the language and the aforementioned differences with regard to holidays and school holidays, there are also differences in culture, preferences and considerations, sometimes by region in Germany alone. For example, East and West Germany, but also Berlin, differ from a southern region such as Bavaria.
We explain a few major differences between the Netherlands and Germany.
In addition to a number of German own holidays (e.g. Tag der Deutschen Einheit), the extent to which a holiday is celebrated can also differ from that in the Netherlands. For example, both Easter and Christmas are usually celebrated more grandly in Germany than in the Netherlands.
But also consider days like: Berlin Fashion Week, Spring Festival Stuttgart and, of course, Oktoberfest.
For the average German, the degree of sustainability is an important consideration in the purchasing process. More than 35% of German digital shoppers, for example, attach great importance to the sustainable packaging of a product. Germans also find a company's service very important. They take a good look at the product specifications and whether the company is well known. This is usually done by looking at the TrustedShops reviews and rating scores. This is because this is the largest online store label in Germany.
German consumers therefore have high expectations and are more likely to prefer products that are sustainable and of quality. They are therefore more willing to pay a little more for it. Overall, a big difference compared to an average Dutch consumer.
In addition, they not only look at whether the company is well known, but they also find it important that the webshop meets their expectations in terms of customer service, reliability, and fast delivery times. In addition, Germans attach great importance to local payment options, such as payment by bank transfer or popular services such as PayPal, and expect clear information about shipping costs and return options. The ability to communicate in their native language, both on the website and with customer service, also plays a major role in their decision to buy from a German online store.
Although our calendar primarily focuses on Germany, it also offers valuable insights for entrepreneurs active in the wider DACH region. With over 100 million potential customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, this is a market full of opportunities.
